You want to see what the weather is going to be for your mountain biking holiday so we have brought together some of the best weather resources for the Chamonix and French Alps area. Remember when planning for your trip that you need to take adequate kit for all weather possibilities. Mountain biking in pouring rain in just shorts and a t-shirt is not much of a holiday. Ensure that you have packed at least one full waterproof set, and we recommend that you have both a lightweight windproof and a full waterproof jacket available when you are mountain biking in Chamonix.

As with all high mountain environments you have micro-climates and the possibility of rapid changes in the weather. Chamonix being right next to Mont Blanc and such a large glacial area means that a change in wind direction can bring the temperature down considerably. As you climb uphill the temperature also falls, this is approximately 1 degree celsius for every 100m in altitude. This means that you may well be mountain biking in 25 degrees in the bottom of the valley, but it could be less than 15 degrees when biking over the high passes just an hour later. Windchill is also a factor on exposed mountain bike trails where the temperature can feel much colder and this is why we recommend that you always carry a windproof with you on all bike rides in Chamonix.
